Freshman Learning Communities November 11, 2009

The Big Tree

When attending Lobo Orientation as a freshman, you will have several choices of academic programs.  One of the many is the Freshman Learning Communities (FLC).  Freshman Learning Communities are two or more classes that are taught together.  Since the two classes are taught together, this means the same students are present.  Having the same students in each class creates a close bond between peers.  The instructors work together to coordinate their courses.  This is done so that the classes are more related to each other.   One of the classes is a Freshman Seminar.  This course is a themed class.  The instructors teach and cooperate with the students on the theme they are learning.  The readings and assignments are related, fun, and intellectual.

The classes are all themed and are linked to your English class. You have numerous class themes that you can chose from such as:

  • Biology
  • Medicine and Disease
  • Ecology
  • Forensics
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Marketing
  • Sign Language

With all these themes, and much more, there is one that is sure to interest you.  Many freshman choose a theme to help them gain experience towards their future career.

The Freshman Learning Community is a great program and should definitely be taken advantage of.  There are thousands of opportunities that await you.  You will gain new friends that will become very close with you as a result of working together.  Also, you will gain hands on experience that are usually not part of most classes.  One will certainly enjoy this academic program.  The class is much more fun and inviting than any other you have taken.  It says it in the name: Freshman Learning Communities, you learn and you have a good time doing it.  If you’re interested in taking one of these courses, click on the link below.
